Tech giant Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has seen stronger-than-expected preorders for its new flagship Galaxy S7 smartphones launching this week, a senior company executive said on Thursday.
Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung’s handsets business, did not give a figure or disclose sales targets during a press briefing for the phones, which go on sale in South Korea and other markets on Friday. But he said Samsung expects the S7s to help revive sales in China, the world’s top smartphone market where researchers say the Korean firm is lagging its competitors.
The Galaxy S7s offer incremental upgrades, leading some analysts to predict sales in the first year will be weaker than last year’s Galaxy S6s.
As soon as Samsung launched the Galaxy S7, iFixit took it into the labs for doing what it does best. After ripping apart Samsung’s latest flagship, iFixit gave it an extremely low repairability score of 3 out of 10. It should be noted that the previous Galaxy S6 edge also got a similar low 3/10. The
Galaxy S6 had a slightly better score of 4/10. Among the recent leading flagships, only the Nexus 6P has got an even lower score of 2/10. It should be noted that the latest iPhone 6s emerged with a good reparability score of 7 out of 10.
To get access to the S7’s internals, one has no other way but to remove the glass panel. Now, this won’t be an easy task by itself. The strong adhesive makes easy access quite difficult. The display needs to be removed, increasing the risk, if one needs to replace the USB port. According to iFixit, replacing the glass without destroying the display is ‘probably impossible’.
