Samsung announces Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo smartwatches

Within just five months of introducing the original Galaxy Gear, Samsung is replacing it with Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo smartwatches. The company today unveiled the new wearable devices, which run on Tizen, as rumoured.

“Samsung continues to lead innovation in the wearable market by creating devices that are completely integrated into the lives of consumers through extended connectivity features, stylish customization options and a robust application ecosystem. With the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo, we have enhanced everything consumers love about the Gear to offer unparalleled smart freedom in their everyday life,” Said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile Division, Samsung Electronics.

According to Samsung, the Gear devices will go on sale worldwide in April and will be available in Charcoal Black, Gold Brown (only for Gear 2), Wild Orange and Mocha Grey (only for Gear 2 Neo) colour options.

As per a press release issued by the company, Gear 2 smartwatches are companion devices and will be allow consumers to accept or ignore incoming calls and messages, and providing instant notification options based on a user’s activity and habits. In addition, these wearables will also let consumers control TV, set-top box through WatchON Remote application. Other features include a stand-alone music player and personal fitness app.

Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will be compatible with more than a dozen of Samsung Galaxy smartphones at launch. The company has not revealed the specific device names but you can expect to see the support for popular phones.
