Ringing Bells is back under the spotlight as the Noida-based company has promised to start shipping the Freedom 251 smartphone this week from June 30. Despite all apprehensions, the company says it is ready to ship the first batch of 200,000 units this week. Speaking to the Financial Express , Ringing Bells CEO Mohit Goel also revealed that registrations for the ‘world’s cheapest smartphone’ will restart once the first batch is delivered.

Goel also says that the Freedom 251 handset that will be shipped to users this week will be different from what was revealed earlier this year. The company not only courted a lot of controversy for its promise to sell the world’s cheapest smartphone, but also showcased a device that turned out to be an Adcom device. To hide the logo, the company had used a whitener, and it also didn’t help that the device on the website was again different from what was being promised.

For the first time though, we are getting a look at what could be the real Freedom 251 smartphone. The photo shared by IANS, shows a device that is vastly different from the rebranded Adcom smartphone. There’s no tricolor on the back panel, which now just has the rear camera, LED flash and the Freedom logo. Up front, there is the selfie camera, display, and three navigation buttons at the bottom.

Goel also revealed that the units that will finally ship this week also has a different set of specifications and features. It will retain the 4-inch display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB using a microSD card.

On the photography front though, the smartphone now features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 3.2-megapixel selfie camera, and a bigger 1,800mAh battery. Connectivity options will include dual-SIM card slots, 3G support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and on the software front, it will run on Android Lollipop 5.1.
