Ringing Bells gets relief from Allahabad High Court, to start selling Freedom 251 soon

With Ringing bells Pvt. Ltd, a Noida-based firm facing many charges of fraud and cheating against the company regarding the Freedom 251 smartphone, Ringing bells seem to be determined to fulfill their promise of selling the world’s cheapest smartphone “Freedom 251” soon. According to Zeenews, the company might be facing some relief against the case of cheating filed against Ringing bells under section 420 at the Allahabad High Court.

According to the news, the offense of section 420 of IPC may not be valid for the charges against the company. as said by the division bench, comprising of Justice B. K. Narayan and Justice R. N. Mishra. The bench also ruled that no coercive steps should be taken against Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd until the next hearing. The bench has said that Ringing bells should be given a chance to fulfill their commitment before taking any action.

Ringing Bells has got into news worldwide with the launch of the world’s most affordable 3G smartphone, the Freedom 251 in February and with right from the sales say has been in controversies about how genuine the company is and its promises with cases being filed against it in Allahabad Court.

With this ruling favoring the company about giving them a chance to fulfill their promises Abhishek Vikram, counsel for Ringing Bells said, the company has already developed an innovative strategy to meet the promised cost of the handset and for delivering the smartphone at just Rs. 251 to its customers. he added “We are very happy with today’s (Friday’s) order. We shall now press for the quashing of the FIR as there is no merit in it and extraneous factors have gone into its lodging. This FIR is a strategy to derail the timely launch of the flagship product of the company.”

The Freedom 251 which comes with a 4-inch display along with a quad-core 1.3GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB using microSD card. The price of the phone was promised at Rs. 251 with the delivery date being set as until June30. We have to wait and see what will be the next move by the company.

Ringing Bells gets relief from Allahabad High Court, to start selling Freedom 251 soon

Perhaps, it is better late than never as Ringing Bells on Monday announced that it would start the delivery of its Rs 251 smartphone, the Freedom251 from June 28.

Deliveries will start to customers who have registered for buying the phone, Noida-based company's Director Mohit Goel said.

"We will start shipment of Freedom251 from June 28 to customers who paid for it earlier on COD (cash-on-delivery) basis," he told PTI.

Earlier, after the much hype launched in February following which about 5 crore were said to have registered for the 25 lakh available handsets, Ringing Bells had announced that the deliveries would start in April and end on June 30.

“Now the onus is on us to deliver on the promise and I am hopeful that we will be able to start delivery latest by April 10 and finish well before the June 30 deadline,” Ashok Chadha, President of Ringing Bells had said earlier.

However, the launch of the smartphone, touted to be the world's cheapest, swirled into controversy, with some calling it a ponzy scheme.

Also, the website of the company crashed during two-day sale due to huge response from prospective buyers. The company claimed that around 30,000 customers had booked the phone despite the glitch.

The company, however, withdrew the product and refunded the payments to customers following a close scrutiny by government agencies.

The company had said about 30,000 people paid for booking the phone and over 7 crore people registered for it.

Later, the company said that it would deliver the phone on cash-on-delivery mode to those who placed the order.

Goel said that Ringing Bells has a foolproof plan to support the price but did not disclose it.

Ringing Bells President Ashok Chaddha had explained earlier that the manufacturing cost of the phone was about Rs 2,500, which had to be recovered through a series of measures like economies of scale, innovative marketing, reduction in duties and creating an e-commerce marketplace.

He had said that the company would make phones in India that would lead to 13.8 per cent savings on duties and further save on cost by selling it online.

The phone was to be manufactured in Noida and Uttaranchal.

"Two plants will be set up for Rs 250 crore each with a capacity of 5 lakh phones. The money will come in the form of debt and equity (1.5:1)," Chaddha had said.

However, industry players had expressed doubt over the claim. Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad too had asked the Department of Electronics and IT to look into the matter.

The company had also come under the scanner of Excise and Income Tax Departments amid debate over the feasibility of a 3G-enabled handset for Rs 251.

Finally! Ringing Bells to deliver Freedom 251 from June 28 | Zee News

After having launched the world’s cheapest smartphone, Freedom 251 , Ringing Bells has announced plans to launch the cheapest HD LED TV in India. Pricing of the HD LED TV is expected to be less than Rs 10,000 and the company claims it already has one lakh units in stock. An official launch is expected to take place in the first week of July. “These will be the cheapest television sets in India and will be available for less than Rs 10,000. Within two days, the delivery would be made and we would sell them online,” Ringing Bells CEO Mohit Goel told IANS.

Earlier this year an unknown Noida-based company ‘Ringing Bells’ had taken the market by storm by announcing the world’s cheapest 3G smartphone, the Freedom 251. Priced at Rs 251, the Freedom 251 is said to be Ringing Bells’ contribution to the government’s Digital India and Make in India initiatives. But shortly after, the company was certified as a ‘scam’ by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for its dubious business practices. The Telecom Ministry had asked the Income Tax Department to probe Ringing Bells’ financial standing.

Interestingly, the Freedom 251 shown at the launch event was a shoddy rebranded version of the Adcom Ikon 4 smartphone. Adcom had disclosed that it had sold units to Ringing Bells for Rs 3,600 each and threatened a legal action. Ringing Bells played down the allegations saying the device was only intended to use the Adcom units as a prototype.

In the meantime, Ringing Bells also confirmed that two lakh Freedom 251 smartphones are ready for shipping, which will begin from June 30, as promised. After a long stretch of doubtful claims and controversies, it is really difficult to trust Ringing Bells. We will have to wait and watch to find out whether the company manages to deliver the smartphones.
