Thats a penalty coz there was clear contact by the defender on the Saudi player with no attempt to play the ball

It is a penalty by law but referees judge based on force of contact among other things.The Saudi player went down as if he has been stabbed.I am surprised that even with Collina incharge the level of VAR has been shockingly poor and erratic.I really hope UEFA and European leagues stay away from this sh#t level set by FIFA.

Is it a foul anywhere else on the pitch? Yes so it is a foul inside the box also. You cant say just because it is inside the penalty box you need more force to call it a foul. A foul is a foul anywhere on the pitch. I actually want other leagues especially UEFA and FA to follow this WC then only we can stop unnecessary fouls in the match.

There will be 100’s of penalties if referees start giving soft penalties like this.And as I said the force of contact matters as well as whether the player was in control of the ball or not.If you ask me the Saudi player had already lost the ball before he decided to try his luck by pretending to die.I am glad that this garbage will not be adopted by UEFA.Football is a contact sports and it’s not that referees don’t give penalty for hacking down players in box.If the referees is there not to use his brain when players do this con job then they well may be not be required.

I know Football is a contact sport and if it is a 50-50 ball fine but in this case there was no chance of defender even being anywhere near to the ball If they dive I understand not giving but defenders just try to unnecessarily put their leg out that should stop only if penalties are given for those sort of unnecessary touches by the defender

Another example was the Ronaldo penalty Ronaldo got to the ball the defender could have just let Ronaldo run with it but unnecessarily gave a light push and clip on his heel so Ronaldo went down penalty.

Same was the case with the Argentine penalty the ball didnt even reach the last player who was fouled but unnecessarily the defender was holding the player. Old days it would be accepted but now thanks to VAR it is same for attackers and defenders if attacker holds a defender its a foul same if defender holds an attacker.
