The pump prices of petrol have been raised by 35 paise a litre in two days and diesel by 39 paise after fuel rate increase was paused for 66 days since February 27, a day after the Election Commission of India announced elections in four states and one Union territory.
Petrol price was hiked by 26 paise a litre and diesel by 33 paise per litre, according to a price notification by state-owned fuel retailers.
This was the fifth increase in prices since May 4, when the state-owned oil firms ended an 18-hiatus in rate revision during assembly elections in states like West Bengal.
The upward movement of petrol and diesel rates resumed on Friday after a day’s pause as pumps raised prices of the two fuels by 29 paise and 34 paise per litre respectively, making petrol costlier by ₹1.94 a litre and diesel by ₹2.22 per litre in 11 days.
