Almost two centuries ago, an Englishman named Charles Fraser stumbled upon a thing of true beauty during this three-decade-long stay in colonial India: a perfectly spherical mineral specimen lined with light pink and white interior bands!

From his hands, the beautiful specimen landed in the British Natural History Museum's mineralogical collection, logged as an agate specimen — a quartz-like mineral with bands of varying colours, chiefly found buried in ancient lava.
