Garo Hills’ ‘Mother Teresa’ Sister Guadalupe passes away at 97

TURA | March 11: Rev Sister Guadalupe Velasco, who was fondly referred to as the ‘Mother Teresa’ of Garo Hills passed away at the Nazareth Hospital at Shillong this morning at the age of 97. She had served the state of Meghalaya for over 7 decades.

Condoling the demise of Sister Gaudalupe, Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad Sangma said “Her contribution as a Catholic Woman Missionary apart from furthering the mission’s work was to provide health care to the sick .and the suffering in the Garo Hills. Her service, especially to the patients of leprosy in Tura garnered her the much deserved respect and love from the native people. She was a woman anchored in faith and prayer and performed her duties with utmost diligence. She was a kind and loving individual whose love for God reflected immensely in her service towards His people.”
