Often criticised for its failure to keep up with technology, All India Radio (AIR) has embraced the new media.

AIR’s Urdu Service and FM Gold will now be live-streamed on its website, accessible to listeners across the world. A YouTube Channel will use clips from AIR archives, and AIR news will have its own application on Android mobile devices.

Launching AIR’s foray into the new media world, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari termed this a ‘landmark step’ that would enhance AIR’s outreach.

Speaking of its integration with mobile application, Mr. Tewari said: “Apart from catering to news and information needs, this innovative technology would enhance the profile, content and reach of its national and regional bulletins in regional languages in the audio form.”
