Why are they offering for free?

It's a promotional gimmick! There are 10 titles. 1st episodes of the series are free and will ask for Subscription to continue. However movies are exception, you can watch all those movies available on that free microsite. They also said it will be changing time to time.

Netflix app won't even show in Playstore in Mi A2. Because I've unlocked my Bootloader. So I'm forced to use a 2 year old Netflix apk downloaded from apkmirror.

Since you've already unlocked your Bootloader, you should go ahead and install a Custom Recovery & Flash a Custom Rom. It should bring back Netflix on PlayStore.
