Kohli, Gambhir fined for violating IPL Code of Conduct
The high-credited players featuring Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir were fined for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct. The Royal Challengers skipper Virat Kohli was charged INR 24 lakh after the quartet team bolstered a slow-going over-rate in the recently concluded last evening’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders.
This was the second ocassion, Kohli was penalized for failing to ensure his team finished its quota of overs on time. The latter had paid a penalty of Indian Rupee Rates 12 lakh the last time.
The release stated: “Virat Kohli, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain was fined after the team maintained a slow over-rate during last evening’s IPL match against Kolkata Knight Riders at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
“Since it was his second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Kohli was fined Rs 24 lakh, while the rest of the team was fined Rs 6 lakh each or 25 percent of their match fee,” the release said.
Coming to the other veteran, Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir was penalized with a 15 percent match fine of his match fees after he confessed to a Level 1 offence for ‘abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings in the last IPL match against RCB.
Gautam Gambhir expressed heights of substandard during the match and was seen booting a chair in the team’s bench area in hot-headed manner after Suryakumar Yadav hit a boundary. Nonetheless, Gambhir’s team sealed a convincing 5-wicket win over RCB.
“Gautam Gambhir from the Kolkata Knight Riders team was fined 15% of his match fee for breaching the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday,” an IPL media release stated.
“Gambhir admitted the Level 1 offence (Article 2.1.8) of abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match. For Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it further added
