Violation of the odd-even road rationing rule, scheduled to kick in from November 4 in the city, will invite a fine of Rs 20,000 as per the amended Motor Vehicles Act, officials said on Thursday.
A two-wheeler rider left behind his scooter after police asked him to pay Rs 42,500 in fines for a staggering 77 traffic violations. But instead of paying the fine and taking the scooter back, Kumar chose to forfeit the two-wheeler. It later transpired that he had bought the scooter, a second-hand one, for Rs 20,000.
In an effort to improve road safety and promote responsible travelling, the Delhi Police last week issued a notice, saying people will be fined for not wearing a seat belt while sitting at the rear seat of the car.
Part of the drive, the traffic police will issue a fine of up to Rs 1,000 for not wearing rear seat belt.
“We will ensure that the helmet and over-speeding laws are strictly enforced. Recently special drives were launched against helmetless pillion riders. Though the double helmet rule for bikers as well as the pillion riders already existed in the amended Motor Vehicles Act 2019, its implementation had been lacking.
