KOLKATA: Adam Gilchrist, the captain of Kings XI Punjab, admitted that they were outplayed by the bowling attack of Kolkata Knight Riders here at the Eden Gardens on Saturday. Following are the excerpts of his comments at the post-match media conference.
On KXIP’s defeat
The performance of KKR bowlers was the highlight of the match. Their spinners bowled particularly well.
Gauti introduced spinners from the fourth over. Their combined bowling effort stifled us. We gifted them three run-outs that hurt us...
that doesn’t help in difficult batting matches.
On the Eden pitch
It’s same for both teams. It was a difficult batting wicket.
It did bounce consistently. I would not say it is a bad cricket wicket, but a challenging one. We were a little bit too low.
On reliance on top-order batsmen
Up to this point, it’s been the top order that has got us the runs. Dinesh Karthik played well on Saturday after getting an opportunity in the middle. There is a long way to go in the tournament and I am sure the opportunities will come for the middle order to click and try and get us bigger totals.
On KKR as a formidable team
It is a totally different team, isn’t it? There is no point comparing the teams. Other than Chennai and Mumbai there are not many teams that retained their former players. They are playing well. They have a fine leader in Gambhir who is working well with Dav (Whatmore).
