I had a BSNL Fiber with a 200Mbps plan with SKYpro IPTV. I felt all the SD channels are getting in good quality with 5.1 surround sound too. I didn't get the similar or better quality in the DishTV HD box, Aritel HD Box, and TataPlay DVR & HD Box too.

Please check the Makkal TV on all DTH and see their logo pixelation. I felt that the channel was transmitting in very poor quality, but after I saw the channel on SKYPRO IPTV. All DTH operators are providing a more compressed format in DTH feeds due to satellite capacity costing.

When I have time, I will share the SkyPro IPTV feed images.

Fun fact: We can install Jiotv+ from Play Store on Airtel IPTV box and play the available channels (except the premium ones like Star, Zee, Sony etc.).

The outcome is: Jiotv+ channels quality is better on Airtel IPTV box compared to Airtel's own IPTV SD channels. So it's clear that Airtel is compressing their SD channels too much as a result the picture quality looks poor.

It can be also that since Airtel DTH SD channels picture quality are already poor, on the top of that Airtel is compressing them for IPTV low bandwidth usage reasons, hence they look terrible on IPTV box.
Airtel DTH SD chs picture quality is extremely good so I don't agree with ur last point... U should get ur STB, LNB checked if getting poor picture quality on SD chs

SD chs with 5.1 audio?

Airtel is highly compressed SD channels as per their DTH bandiwidth (2 to 3 mbps), There is no dedicated iptv stream in Airtel, so same feed available in iptv also.
Again 2 to 3 Mbps in MPEG4 for SD chs is extremely good bandwidth alocation for a single channel.... U r itself contradicting ur point... Also different chs have different bandwidth alloted and it's not constant.... Airtel has very good picture quality on its SD chs and excellent picture quality on HD chs + sound quality is super awesome with true dolby audio on HD chs which new Tata Play HD STB do not even support as they seem to be taking cost cutting measures thus affecting quality of services adversely

I also felt the same. Seems they are transmitting the raw video they receive it from broadcasters. However the sound seems to be a converter one and looks good too.
Good thing is the channels transmission doens't affect the internet speed, this could be the main reason for no compression. The same concept is not possible in wireless mode I guess, that's why airtel compress the channel. Also I guess airtel wants to maintain the similarity between DTH and IPTV so that customer will feel same with both modes.

Airtel should deliver better PQ for SD channels without compression to its iptv customers as they have gain higher ARPU and iptv is an upgraded version of DTH.
