Which company do you think aggressive bidding for
Digital Rights..?
My Opinion : Amazon Prime Video (India)

Your Opinions...? 🤔🤔🤔

Countdown Starts 7 Days to Go...
Viacom bro . I think it will be available on both . Only thing is Amazon might increase the rate of subscription while showing IPL . Or they might cost a particular amount / match ( apart from subscription )

I think Amazon will bid aggressively on digital rights since they had already invested billions of dollars in India and they will try to grab IPL rights which will indirectly increase their prime subscribers and customers.

I wish MX player to win bidding show it for free😂😂
Sadly they have the tech to offer a smooth experience. Like who is offering streaming content in x266. Not even Netflix, lol.

Months ago it seemed Disney HAD to renew IPL rights if Disney+ had any hope to hit their 2024 goals. Now investors (focused on cash flow) might actually reward Disney for NOT spending billions to acquire the rights. I feel Disney+ Hotstar’s ARPU in India is so small that it might not justify 5 year commitment for IPL. After Netflix’s rough 6 months investors are starting to focus more on cash flow rather than just subscriber count. I still think IPL would be a boost for Disney, but at what cost? I feel Disney should slowly lower their investments in sports in Indian market. Disney+ Hotstar can survive on it’s own with the back of content Disney is creating in global markets be it South Korea, Japan, UK, Turkiye, Italy & more! Disney+ Brand is a rival to a global player, not local platforms. Most importantly losing IPL rights can increase the chances of Hotstar folding in with Global Disney+ service which may cutdown additional costs and will simplify Disney’s complex streaming strategy.

My guess for India rights:
TV rights: Sony
  • Sony will try hard to get back their IPL rights, otherwise they will become too niche of a sports network.
  • Viacom would mostly get BCCI or ICC rights, because BCCI can't have choke points from Reliance on two fronts - the IPL team and the IPL broadcast rights. Plus this can involve CCI and other antitrust bodies as well.
Digital Rights: Amazon/YouTube
  • If star isn't willing for TV rights as per post above, unlikely they will have Digital Only rights.
  • Plus Amazon and YouTube will provide better quality video and audio than Hotstar for sure)
Non exclusive Digital rights: YouTube/Amazon/Reliance

Lets wait for another week to check the results..

Sony is already out of race as per their CEO comments on base price of IPL. If STAR won't, then Zee vs Viacom18 for TV and Amazon vs Viacom18 for digital.
