The BCCI is planning to introduce a ninth Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise from the 2020 season and the plans of expanding it to 10 teams will have to wait till the current Future Tour Programme (FTP) comes to an end in 2023.

According to The Times of India, apart from the scheduling, potential lack of interest due to a high base price for a new franchise and ongoing issues including ongoing arbitration with terminated franchisees Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Pune Warriors India have also contributed towards shelving the plan for a 10th team.

Don't think any Franchise would like to have Dhoni in IPL 2021 looking at age of Dhoni at that point of time plus he is not being selected in T20 squad either won't be surprised Dhoni would be snapped by CSK not more than 4-5 Cr.

I really want Dhoni to have a good IPL 2020. Get picked to World Cup T20. Play and retire after that. Wicket-keeping wise hes the best on display at the moment. Batting-wise - I haven't seen any other wicket-keeper do better than Dhoni in the last 6 months.

Hardly matters if hes playing 2021 or not or if hes in the auction or not. It really would be a waste to play just IPL when you haven't been playing the whole year. The reflexes and the batting just won't be there at that age and when not playing on a regular basis for India
