The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission of Chandigarh has directed the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Chandigarh, and the Indian Railways to refund Rs 477.70 spent on two tickets and give Rs 10,000 compensation to a city couple for refusing to refund the ticket money after the train, diverted due to technical reasons, did not come to their boarding station Gurgaon.

A major rail accident was narrowly avoided in Samastipur when the Bihar Sampark Kranti Express, traveling from Darbhanga to New Delhi, split into two parts with the coaches detaching from the engine. Railway officials quickly arrived at the scene near Khudiram Bose Pusa railway station and began reconnecting the coaches to the engine. There are no reported casualties.
