Rahul is not good for opening slot. Even though he performed really good in last England tour. There is reason he is pushed away from test team after Australia team. He is not able to find balance between attack and defence in test cricket. He is attacking player which is good enough for ODI cricket only. He is unfit for test and T20i. If Easwaran gets chance, then other opener should play a little bit attacking mode, which Rahul lacks completely. Gill is not good for opening for sure as he lacks ball leaving ability. Openers game should be either give good start or tire out bowlers as 3/4/5 can cash in. He failed to do so. Agarwal out of question.



Rohit/Pujara/Kohli should be thrown away from test team. Windies tour is last chance for us to learn and resurrect things in order to do substantial in next test cycle. There is too much cricket going on at the moment and we need better pool of players. We should be looking at captaincy as well. I have few reasons to drop these three.
1. Rohit - Why he is even captain? On the basis of IPL trophies? Even though he hasn't done anything substantial in IPL as a captain, he is just there as mentor to young players. Mentor and captain are two different things. He is not proactive as Rahane or Dhoni as a captain. I still don't think Kohli was good choice as a captain post Dhoni era. It's time to move Gill down and make him captain(G. Smith has been made captain at the same age of Gill and he has been pretty successful). We should not look for temporary options even though I would like to see Rahane or Ashwin as a captain for short term, but their form and fitness is concern(Note: I am selecting Gill even though he lacks leadership skills and even after I am Jinx fan since 2007).
2. Pujara - He hasn't done anything substantial since three four years. Batsman of his status should have scored a lot more runs. But he hasn't performed. So he should be dropped immediately. I was expecting him to touch 12000-13000 runs by now as he is the one format player, but he has failed to do so. Four years is not good for lean patch. Selectors should have been awake by now.
3. Kohli - Kohli was backed way too much. First by Ray Jennings and then by MS in 2012-2015 era. Just success and arrogance costed him captaincy and form. He should have left T20 and ODI format long back but he is just arrogant spoiled brat. His interviews are trash and he is exactly opposite of what he mentions even now. No change since years. So many years and no IPL trophy, ICC trophy is question mark on his leadership abilities. Hell he can't play spin well as well. Neither in tests not in ODIs. He can't leave the ball as well in tests. Enough of him. He has nothing to give to Indian cricket. Let him do toothsy ads.

I have one suggestion why not try instead of aparajit sai sudarshan

Gill is more like cash in player of Virat mould. Even though he has to improve for New Zealand and England tours. Spin as well. He has good cut in his armoury but that's not lone reason he can open the innings. He should be made captain and given a chance to play at four or five.





Easwaran is good patient player. Should be given chance now as he can serve two WTC cycles from now on. With Gill shifting to four, we need to find Easwaran partner, I would have liked attacking partner but Jaiswal is right choice. He has performed in all formats in recent times. He has scored in Ranji, Duleep, Irani trophy as well as Bangladesh tour.



For number three Iyer was best option from current lot as he has patience as well as good game against Spin, but he is prone to injuries. He should be kept away from Indian team. So anyone from Shaikh Rasheed, Baba Indrajith can be tried out in Windies tour. Last decade core of Indian team was made through Windies tour in 2011 and this is same opportunity(Even though Pujara played already in 2010). Shaikh Rasheed should be given chance immediately, if not him, Indrajith. He can give bowling option as well.

We don't give chance to players above 30. That's the style of BCCI. Give chance to youngsters and back them till they settle. That's why no chance to Panchal. And Agarwal had great two three years(2015-2018) otherwise I would have picked Panchal for Australia tour in 2018.




SKY/Nehraji is an exception. Let's see if Mohit Sharma makes come back or not.




Dada gave chance to Yuvraj, Sehwag, Harbhajan.
Dhoni gave chance to Raina, Kohli, Rohit.

We can't have too much left handers in Top five. Even Sai Sudarshan can be tried out as a opener in ODI and Test set up. I will keep these players away from T20.

Washington Sunder will be successor to Ashwin for sure.
Axar has still 3-4 years left in him. Either of these can be our 6 or 7 in tests.
In fast bowlers, we need Zak or Nehraji as a coach. Even Balaji would do.
We have good options in form of Krishna, Nagarkoti, Porel, Deshpande along with Siraj and Bumrah as lead bowlers.




For spinning, Saurabh Kumar is the only option right now for tests.

Saurabh Kumar I mentioned. We need left handed main spinner. I don't know any other spinner in Indian domestic circuit. Maybe Shams Mulani. But he is not fit for Indian team.
