Reliance Jio user base crosses 108 million, to add 1 lakh new towers

Continuing to ramp up its subscriber base, Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), increased its subscriber base to 108.9 million until 31 March. Having launched its services on 5 September 2016, Jio had crossed 50 million subscribers in just 83 days, and 100 million in 170 days, adding at an average rate of 6 lakh subscribers per day.

With over 100,000 mobile towers, Jio is planning to add another 100,000 towers to the network in the coming months. Jio is the only operator which has deployed pan-India LTE network across the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands, giving it tremendous capacity advantage.

Reliance Jio says their download speed highest, rivals misleading public

Ambani-owned Reliance Jio Infocomm (Jio) has said that its download speed of 15 Mbps in March is twice that of any competitor and rival operators are using ‘unverified sources / methodologies’ to mislead public.

The statement from Jio in its analyst presentation - in which he telco did not name any carrier - comes at after both the new entrant and market leader Bharti Airtel claimed their networks to be the fastest. While Airtel claimed that global broadband speed tester
Ookla had certified the market leader as the fastest network provider in India, Jio cited data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) to claim its position as the fastest wireless broadband provider.
