Hello everyone,

We are thrilled to announce that the forum software has been upgraded to version 2.2. This update brings new features, enhancements, and bug fixes, including a redesigned text editor, thread types, PWA, and much more. We have also created separate threads for features that require a detailed explanation. Please check those threads as well.

So, without any further delay, let's dig into what's new

Username change requests

Earlier, you had to request a team member to change your username. But now you can change your username by yourself. However, a team member's approval is still required.

For detailed information on how to change your username, please check: Guide - How to change your username

Writing before registering

Guest users can now compose a new thread or a reply, similar to a logged-in member. However, when guest users click the Post Thread or a Post Reply button, a registration form is presented, where they are asked to register an account to submit their composed message.

If a guest user already has an account, they can use the Login option available on the registration page. The composed message will be submitted automatically.

For more information, please read: Guide - Guest users can now compose a thread or a reply before registering

Redesigned text editor

The text editor now features a more modern look with updated icons and fewer controls on the surface. It also includes a new Insert GIF button that allows users to search and insert GIFs right from the editor.

OnlyTech forum is now a progressive web app (PWA), and you can install it as an app on your computer or Android devices to get a native app-like experience.

For a better experience, don't forget to enable push notifications, if not already enabled.

Thread Types

While composing a new thread, you can now select a specific thread type based on your content. There are four different thread types to choose from, which include question, article, poll, and discussion.

If you select a wrong thread type, report it to the team to change it to the correct thread type. However, changing the thread type can cause some data loss. So, please select the correct thread type to avoid any data loss.

For more information on selecting the correct thread type, please read: Guide - Introducing new thread types

Similar threads and thread suggestions

Similar threads is a feature that displays similar or relevant threads below the quick reply area on the thread view pages.

While composing a new thread title, it will suggest related threads right below the thread title in real-time, allowing you to check and avoid posting a duplicate thread.

, a device native share sheet will open where you can share content using your favorite app.

Improved alerts behavior

You can now manually mark alerts as read or unread by clicking on the read toggle indicator. If you mark an alert as unread, it will remain unread until you mark it read or visit the content.

Informational alerts, such as a notification of a moderator's action or a reaction from someone on your post, can be marked as read automatically, while other alerts will stay in their read state until either you visit the content or explicitly mark it as read.

Activity summary email

The Activity summary is an email, periodically sent to members who opt for, includes an overview of what they have missed since their last visit to the forum.

To opt for receiving Activity summary emails, click your username on the top bar and then click Account details or Privacy. Check "Receive activity summary email" under Email options, and click save. You will receive an Activity summary email when you don't visit the forum for a while.

Lazy loading & New lightbox

OnlyTech forum now supports native lazy loading of images, which means instead of loading all images on a thread at once, it now loads images as you scroll, reducing page loading times and data usage. This feature is available on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based), and Safari (experimental feature).

The Lightbox interface, which displays images in Fullscreen, has been updated with new features, including pinch to zoom, and swipe up or down to dismiss the Lightbox interface on touch screen devices. New Lightbox also allows viewing all the images on the page by swiping either left and right, or by clicking the left and right arrows. It even supports image slideshow.

Note: Images with higher resolution that are resized to fit in the content box are shown in the lightbox interface. Other images that are not resized or fit perfectly in the content box will not appear in the lightbox interface.

So, what you think about this new update and also if you have any questions or you encounter any bug after the upgrade, let us know.

Thanks for reading!

Cheers,
OnlyTech team

Are you using auto night mode option on the browser? We have no control over it bro. And hence we can't do anything to fix it. You might have to disable the night mode.

Or try another browser. I just checked in opera and enabling auto night mode doesn't have this issue. :win:

@DJ Roy bro, did you asked for this feature a while ago? Making viewed alerts marking as unread again is now possible with a click of a button.
