The FIFA World Cup 2026™ moved a step closer today as a FIFA delegation led by FIFA Vice-President and Concacaf President Victor Montagliani visited Toronto and concluded its inspection of the candidate host cities for what will be the first-ever edition of football’s flagship event to feature 48 teams and be held across three countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Within the scope of three tours, the FIFA experts witnessed the excitement, along with the commitment of the bidding teams, in Boston, Atlanta, Nashville, Orlando, Washington DC, Baltimore, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Miami, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Monterrey, San Francisco, Seattle, Edmonton, Mexico City, Guadalajara, Los Angeles and Toronto.

Following a thorough assessment, FIFA expects to finalise the selection process by Q1/Q2 2022.

The rule would be implemented as part of a new format, which could see 48 nations split across 16 separate three team groups

Asia goes from five teams to eight guaranteed, Africa will get nine direct qualifiers instead of five, South America goes from four to six, Europe from 13 to 16, and North America from four to six (although three of those will be the co-hosts). And the biggest winners are surely New Zealand, with Oceania getting one guaranteed spot.

That's 46 teams accounted for. After that, six additional teams - one from each continent except Europe, and a second one from North America - will compete for the final two spots in a play-off tournament.

It's not possible but just saying
I have a suggestion and doubt if Australia can left Oceania confederation and join afc asia to get qualify for wc why not we india make indian neighbour confederation and qualify for wc 😅😅

Australia done this 👇👇

Australia left the Oceania Football Confederation after the 2006 World Cup because the Socceroos hated not having a direct path to qualifying for the World Cup. The OFC is not guaranteed a spot in the World Cup and has to play in a playoff from either CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, or the AFC to get in.

Actually the real reason Australia left OFC was because the competition in OFC was not there so they said even if there is competition they will get better playing against the AFC teams. So they joined AFC to get better
