Big chance for Robin Uthappa as race for WC slots

New Delhi: Robin Uthappa has got a big chance to show his mettle once again in the international level, as the star batsman will hope to put up a big show against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday.

The Karnataka batsman's last outing for the national team came against Bangladesh in the three-match ODI series, earlier in June.

The 29-year old, who celebrated his birthday on Monday, had a poor outing in the neighbouring nation after scoring just 69 runs in three innings. It did little to justify his cause, as he faced the axe for the ODI series against England and
the West Indies.

The BCCI gave him another chance after selecting him for the last two ODIs against the Lankans. With Bengal wicket- keeper Wriddhiman Saha, given a break by the board, the platform is set for Uthappa to retain the faith of selectors with less than a 100 days left for the coveted ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.

ICC Cricket WC 2015 sees a 20 per cent jump in total prize money

MUMBAI: The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 is set to get bigger.

The ICC Board under the chairmanship of Narayanaswami Srinivasan which met recently at its headquarters has approved total prize money of USD 10 million, an increase of approximately 20 per cent from the last World Cup which was held in 2011.

The board which met to receive an update on the 2015 World Cup expressed satisfaction with the preparations for the Council’s pinnacle 50-over tournament.

The board has also decided that if a team wins the tournament without losing a single match it will receive atotal prize money of USD 4,020,000, while a team that loses one match on the way to winning the tournament will receive USD 3,975,000.

The board has approved the cut-off dates for qualification to the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

The top eight sides on the Reliance ICC ODI Team Rankings on 30 September 2015 will qualify for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, which will be hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). The cut-off date for the 10-team ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019 also to be played in England and Wales was set for 30 September 2017.

The top eight ranked sides on that date will automatically qualify for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, while the ninth and 10th ranked teams will play in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in Bangladesh in 2018.

The board also accepted the revised ICC Anti-Doping Code, ICC Anti-Corruption Code and Code of Ethics. While the Anti-Doping Code, which is in line with the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code, will come into effect from 1 January 2015, the revised Anti-Corruption Code and the Code of Ethics will come into effect immediately.

ICC chairman N. Srinivasan speaking about the revision of the ICC Anti Corruption Code said: “The process for the revision was exhaustive and has been based on our learnings and experiences over the past few years.

This Code is now even more robust and comprehensive and it provides clarity on jurisdictional issues, gives options to the charged participant and offers more choices to the Anti-Corruption Tribunal.”
ICC chief executive David Richardson commented, “The battle against corruption remains one of cricket’s biggest challenges and we remain committed to eliminating this menace from our sport. Although the final outcome is likely to be presented at the January meeting, I have been heartened with the progress the Integrity Working Party has made.”


Also, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s nomination of Najam Sethi who was the former chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, for the ICC Presidency has been accepted. He will be taking over from Mustafa Kamal as the ICC President for a period of 12 months.

ICC publishes news access regulationsfor Cricket World Cup 2015

The International Cricket Council (ICC)
today released its News Access Regulations for
broadcasters in India intending to report on the
ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 (and its warm-up
matches), which will be staged across 14 venues
in Australia and New Zealand from 10 February
to 29 March 2015.
News broadcasters may broadcast a maximum
total of five and a half minutes of footage a day
during news programmes.
The broadcast of any footage may be repeated
during a news day, and any permitted repeat
shall not count towards the maximum total,
provided always that (i) the total number of
broadcasts of such footage is restricted to a
maximum of two exhibitions per hour of
broadcasting; and (ii) no more than five and a
half minutes of footage (whether the first
broadcast of any such footage or any repeat
thereof) may be broadcast per hour of
broadcasting.

The use of live footage by a news broadcaster is
not permitted at any time under any
circumstances. There must be a minimum of at
least 30 minutes delay following the broadcast of
any live footage by the official/host broadcaster
before any extract of such footage may be used
by the designated news broadcaster.

However, news broadcasters are permitted to
interrupt regular news programmes and/or other
news programmes to broadcast footage using
the caption ‘Breaking News’ or such equivalent,
only for a period not exceeding 15 seconds and
for no more than one exhibition of footage within
30 minutes following the broadcast of such live
footage by the official/host broadcaster, to
report the achievement of an important personal
milestone by a player (for example, a hat-trick of
wickets falling, 100 wickets being taken, or 1,000
runs being scored), or other exceptional events
that may occur during any match day. For the
avoidance of doubt, any such exceptional use
shall count towards the maximum limits of usage
of footage.

News broadcasters are not permitted to use any
footage to make their own compilation or ‘mix’
the footage with footage from other television
events, sports events, documentaries, interviews,
etc. No use of any footage is permitted in any
circumstances for any commercial purposes.
The
news broadcaster shall not carry any advertising,
sting, logo, graphic and/or any other commercial
activity (including on a ticker) whatsoever
immediately before, immediately after, or during
the broadcast of footage (or any clip thereof) in
a news programme and no association shall be
created, suggested or implied between the use
of footage and any third-party brand or product.
No footage shall be broadcast within a news
programme or other news programme that shows
any advertisement, including on a ticker.

News programmes or other news programmes
that use footage are not permitted to have a
‘title’ or other sponsor, and no advertisement
may be used or repeated in the regular
advertising breaks during the news programme or
other news programme in such a manner as to
create, suggest or imply an association between
the advertiser and the footage or the event.
News broadcasters shall not carry any
advertising, sting, logo, graphic or any other
commercial activity, including on a ticker,
immediately before, immediately after or during
any ‘player-of-the-day’, ‘event-of-the-day’, ‘image-
of-the-day’ or similar feature relating to the
event.
