Root backs Morgan to come good in
World Cup

It is ironical that Eoin Morgan is in the
same situation as Alastair Cook was a
couple of months ago. Cook was sacked
as ODI skipper following England's 2-5
loss to Sri Lanka and the reasons cited
for his axing was poor form with the bat
which in turn was affecting the
performance of the team. England arrived
in Australia with Morgan at the helm.

He started off in style by smashing 121
against Australia in the first match of the
recently-concluded tri-series in Sydney
but since then, his form has tapered away
drastically with scores of 0,2 and 0. Even
in the warm-up game against Pakistan in
Sydney on Wednesday, he fell for a third-
ball duck as he lap-swept a Yasir Shah
full toss to first slip. However, Joe Root is
confident that Morgan can turn his form
around in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

Root believes that Morgan will take out his
frustrations over his poor form against
Australia on Saturday. "Morgs is one of
the guys that under the pump, when the
pressure is on, you turn to. He's done it
so many times for us and I'm sure
throughout this competition he's going to
score a lot of runs. Everyone in the
dressing room is absolutely convinced
that's going to be the case. He scored a
hundred not long ago. He's obviously a
fine player, he's a fine leader," he said in
an interaction with reporters.

England will be heading into the clash
against Australia at the MCG low on
confidence. In the last 10 ODIs, Australia
have won eight and lost just two while at
home, they have lost just two out of 20
ODIs in the last year.
