India is doing extremely well in its push for electrification, says World Bank

India’s performance in providing its citizens access to electricity has been astounding, but the country has a long way to go in ensuring the access is meaningful with enough hours of supply, the World Bank has said. The world body estimates that nearly 85% of the population has access to power supply – even more than the government figure of 82%.

Why did government boast about 100% electricity in villages(??!!) when 15% (almost 20 crore) don't have access to power supply?

You are confusing yourself. Village is not home. All village has Electricity means all village is connected to national grid and in those villages public places like schools/hospital/panchayat and 10 percent of homes now have electricity. BTW It's the definition of electrification which Congress set up during their tenure.

On a position note It also means all villagers in those villages can now apply for electricity connection in their home which they could not do earlier as grid connection was not there.

Sad to see UPA took 60 years to achieve that 97%. So 1.5% electrification per year on average. What a shame for congress.

On the other hand in infrastructure 10 years of NDA has built more than 50% of all national highway in India. So 60 years of congress rule gives us only 50 % of national highway and only 10,000 km railway, now don't say it was engineering problem as British built 54,000km of railway in just 100 years before congress took over.

Much better than 3% in 4 years.
Also at that time revenue was nowhere what it is today through heavy taxes and others.

Road or Railway was never a priority for UPA in their 60 years history. So atleast they should have done much better in electricity than NDA. But did they ?

Some people like progessing fast like China some don't like that model and ready to progress at 🐌 pace and celebrate 97% electrification in 60 years. So it depends
