14 days only? Airtel deducted for 28 days last week...
The Rs 23 / Rs 24 recharge of Vodafone-Idea now provides only 14 days outgoing validity, whereas Airtel Provides 28 days outgoing validity.

I would not bank of Airtel's offer as Airtel and Vodafone/Idea are literally siblings who make sure that they don't cut on each other's offering. I am pretty sure that memo of tariffs change goes to other operators as well before they all change their plan.

This is not an "offer" by airtel. It was the existing tariff. On Dec 6 when all operators changed plans, VodaIdea revised validity to 14 days. Airtel has kept it 28 days.

Just observed, Vodafone has introduced another recharge:
MRP: Rs 39
Talktime: Rs 30
Validity: 14 days
Data: 100 MB

Good option for those who want to retain number and use some talktime as well.

How is ₹39 better than ₹49?

Actually it isn't any good. Just that it may be used for retention of number purposes. Otherwise, these Rs 39 / 49 / 79 recharges are anyway no good.
Eg:
Recharge on 1st Jan with Rs 39.
Get validity till 14th Jan.
Use talktime of Rs 30 in these 14 days for calls/etc.
On 14th Jan, make a chargeable activity (Eg: data/call/SMS).
Starting 14th Jan, you will get 90 days retention period without any recharge. Your SIM will be valid till 12th Apr without any recharge. Thus you got a total validity of (14+90) = 104 days for an effective cost of (Rs 39 - Rs 30 = Rs 9).

Repeat the procedure:
12th Apr + 104 days = 10th Jul (Rs 9)
10th Jul + 104 days = 7th Oct (Rs 9)
7th Oct + 104 days = 4th Jan (Rs 9)

Hence, for (4 x Rs 9) = Rs 36 you retained your number for a year.

Recharge ₹48 every month. You get 3 GB data for 28 days. Do the recharge again on 27th day. You get to carry over data. I am doing since months.
