Refer to my discussion with @Vadirocks on Page 10 of this thread. You can use a combination of publicly available coupon codes & a referral code from an existing user to subscribe to one of the lower tiered plans, and then upgrade it to the Gold plan. That's how he did it last year.

I'm not sure if the coupon codes that I had mentioned in my post still work (probably not). If they don't, search the internet to find currently active codes.
