In a “transformative” military recruitment reform , the Centre has announced the Agnipath scheme for recruitment of soldiers in the three branches of the armed forces, on a short-term basis.

Under the scheme, youth between 17.5 to 21 years of age will be enrolled on an ‘All-India All-Class’ basis as soldiers for four years. These recruits, who will be known as ‘Agniveers’, will form a distinct rank bearing a distinct insignia in the respective forces. They will not be eligible for any pensionary benefit under the scheme. With this, the existing framework of employment for soldiers will cease to exist and those below officer rank — jawans in the Army, sailors in the Navy and airmen in Air Force — will be recruited into the three services through the Agnipath scheme. The scheme does not apply to defence officers for whom there is a provision of short-term service called the Short Service Commission or SSC.

This is a different scheme. Those who want to join the army through this they can join, Those who do not want to join with this scheme they can join with previous method.
There is no mention anywhere in the new scheme When the new system (scheme) is introduced, the old system is removed.

Good move, tax payer's money supposed to be use for building infrastructure,R&D,buy new weapons for military. It's not the tax payer's duty to pay pension for soldiers. However they should increase the salary for agnipath soldiers 40k too low atleast increase to ₹2-₹4 lakhs per month and mandatory veteran experience preference in private companies to get jobs easily after serving

I voted for yes so my view

This is the 1st step to remove rank position in army obiviously no rank no pension obiviously no pension it can be considered as private/temporary job instead of permanent or Government job

So 1st step started to change army permanent job into temporary job like privatisation in insurance sector , railway sector , bank sector etc..etc...

2nd every year 30K jawans going to place.. once 4 year over only 25% of jawans are going to be retain remaining 75% of Ex-Jawans will be released with 11 lakhs compensation by term basis .. Their Education , employment , future all are big question mark ??

DEMO for Finance , NTO for TV Media now Agnipath for Defence ..

PS: Mr.PM as promised 2 Crore employment per year so totally 16 crores employment must be provided to our till now but we all know how many got the employment though

Dunno whether this scheme is good or not. But these people vandalising state property brought using taxpayer's money shouldn't be anywhere near our armed forces.

Farmers won without settings anything on fire. With vandalism these unemployed youths just turned public sentiments against them.

Its actually a sad state of affair that opposition,a section of media etc are trying to further add fuel to fire. These protests have actually become a show of political strength. On the other side Govt. of India should be ashamed of its modus operandi.Farmer's protest,Anti CAA,Baseball after Friday's prayers all had a common theme.Target Govt. properties ,create anarchy, spread tension. This is playing on loop across all protest. However, the govt. of India's home ministry led by second coming of Sardar Patel has comically failed to control any of these situations.I don't know whether it is ploy by govt. to let people see the actual face of enemies of the state by allowing these protests to die natural death but every passing agitation govt.'s ineptness is coming out.Sadly, this is going to continue till 2024 general elections one way or the other.
