Amazon is set to introduce limited advertisements in the Prime Video movies and TV shows starting June 17, 2025. The company has started sending emails to its customers, informing them about the addition of limited advertisements in its streaming service. The company claims this will allow it to continue investing in compelling content and increase investment over a long period.
“We are writing to you today about an upcoming change to your Prime Video experience. Starting June 17, 2025, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV channels and other streaming TV services. No action is required from you,” the company said to its customers in an email.
Furthermore, Amazon has announced it will offer a new ad-free add-on option for an additional Rs. 999 per year or Rs. 129 per month. However, the company is offering a Rs. 300 discount on the yearly plan, allowing customers to get the new ad-free add-on option for Rs. 699 per year. Users can sign up for this add-on starting June 17, 2025.
Amazon has clarified that the Prime membership will remain unchanged, and members will continue to enjoy a wide range of shopping, savings, and entertainment benefits. These include unlimited free and fast delivery, access to Prime shopping, gaming, reading, and music, as well as a vast library of Prime Video movies and TV shows.
The company has also mentioned that the users will continue to have access to Amazon MX Player content on Prime Video. However, it will show advertisements, even when the user opts for the ad-free add-on option for Prime Video.
Amazon Prime is priced at Rs. 1,499 per year or Rs. 299 per month. It offers ad-free viewing of Prime movies and TV shows in 2160p (4K) resolution on up to five devices. However, starting June 17, 2025, customers who wish to continue enjoying ad-free content will need to pay an additional Rs. 699 per year. The company also offers an ad-supported Prime Lite plan for Rs. 799 per year, which offers viewing content in 720p (HD) resolution on a single TV or mobile device.
