Bharti Airtel the second largest telecom operator today faced a major network outage across various locations spanning the length and breadth of the country. Airtel which boasts the second-largest wireless and home broadband subscriber base has acknowledged the glitch which has affected both segments. Airtel did not enlighten about what caused the network outage but it claims to have fixed the issue and restored connectivity at most locations.
“Our Internet services were briefly disrupted this morning due to a technical glitch. The services have been fully restored. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers,”
the spokesperson said in a prepared statement responding to the Airtel outage.
Last week a similar network outage had hit Jio wireless service subscribers in the Mumbai circle where users faced either no network on their sim cards or data-only connectivity with voice services hampered for both incoming and outgoing calls. Jio had taken around 6 hours to restore connectivity and later sent out apology calls and SMS along with a compensatory 2 day validity pack offering 1.5 GB data per day to all affected users.
Airtel subscribers took to Twitter earlier today to vent their displeasure at the network outage, asking Airtel to look into the matter and restore services at the earliest. #AirtelDown Hashtag was trending on Twitter today as reports of the outage started to pour in from 11 AM.
Down detector which is a site that tracks network downtime for all ISPs in India, indicated that the outage had affected major cities like Mumbai, Pune, Bangaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Indore, Kolkata, Jaipur and Delhi among many smaller cities across India.
