India’s leading telecom company, Reliance Jio Infocomm, announced on Wednesday that it is collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) to develop a Bharat GPT program, a generative AI solution. The company, which is a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, also revealed that it is working on a television operating system and planning to launch it soon.

At the IIT-B annual Techfest, Akash Ambani stated that building an ecosystem of development is crucial for Reliance Jio Infocomm and revealed the company is already working on the Jio 2.0 vision.

“We have been working on a project with IIT Bombay to launch a Bharat GPT program. At present, we have just scratched the surface with large language models and generative AI and the next decade will be defined by these applications. We are working very hard to launch AI not only as a vertical inside our organization but also horizontally across all our sectors,” said Akash Ambani.

In addition, the company plans to launch products and services in media space, commerce, and communication. Further, Ambani expressed his enthusiasm for providing 5G private networks, which will give any enterprise, regardless of its scale, access to a 5G stack. He also called India the largest innovation center for the next decade and said the nation will achieve a USD 6 trillion economy by 2030.

Ambani stated that Jio works with a belief that its vision is beneficial for India and described money as the “byproduct” of the value created for the nation. He also urged entrepreneurs to work for social good, especially in the consumer sector, and encouraged everyone to be intensely devoted to their work. Moreover, he added that technology is a “greater equalizer” that surpasses the barriers of demography and caste, and affirmed that Jio constantly monitors the emerging technologies.
