Reliance Jio the leading telecom operator in India has today teased its partnership with Disney+ Hotstar to offer its annual VIP membership on its platform. ‘Get ready to enjoy Disney+ Hotstar VIP for 1 year’ reads the banner on My Jio app and on Jio website without giving any further details about the offer’s launch date (coming soon) or which plans it will be bundled with.
To recall, when Jio launched its commercial operations back in 2016 it used to have a Hotstar Premium icon inside the Jio TV app indicating that they were in the process of offering the premium subscription along with Jio Prime. But Jio had to cut its tariffs to gain subscriber market share and in the process dropped the plan and removed the hotstar premium icon from the Jio TV app and only offered live Star network channels on Jio TV through Hotstar app.
Recently the Hotstar platform got a revamp with the addition of Disney+ content and the change in its premium pricing structure. Hotstar now offers two paid membership tiers, Disney+ Hotstar VIP for Rs.399 annual and Disney+ Hotstar Premium for Rs.1499 annual. The VIP tier is aimed at Hindi and other Indian regional language content while the Premium tier focuses on English language content.
Airtel had recently launched a plan of Rs 401 which offers Disney+ Hotstar VIP annual subscription along with 3GB 4G data. Jio will thus be the second telecom operator to forge a similar partnership with Hotstar. We will update the details of the mobile plans which include the Hotstar VIP membership as soon as we have an official confirmation from Jio.
I wish they had come out with Hotstar premium subscription
