RE: Windows 10 related Discussions and Updates

Just Installed Linux Mint 18 dual Boot with Windows 10 RS1 as Windows 10 is consuming too much bandwidth to get background updates and pull up information from internet in Cortana :shy

@Sarkar and other friends who are victimized by excessive data/bandwidth usage by Windows 10, try these steps..

I manage to cut down the data usage considerably with these steps, so sharing for your info..

1. Start >> Settings >> Network & Internet >> Wi-Fi >> your connection name >> Then turn on the Toggle for Set as metered connection

2. Settings >> Privacy >> Background apps >> Turn off background apps (i turned off everything, just everything)

3. Turn Off or Disable OneDrive or other syncing clients such as Dropbox or Google Drive.

4. Settings >> Accounts >> Sync your settings >> Turn Sync settings off

5. Settings >> Update & Security >> Windows Update >> Advanced Options >> Choose how updates are delivered >> Turn of the toggle
(this feature is useful for offices where multiple PCs connected to same network but useless for home PCs)

6. If you are a Pro/Enterprise edition user, Settings >> Update and Security >> Windows Update >> Advanced Options >> and Enable/Check Defer upgrades

7a. If you are using Office 2016, Open MS Word or other office application and turn off automatic updates.

7b. Open Task Manager and in Processes tab, if you find "Microsoft office Click to Run" end that task.

Now your PC should be calm and not eat data excessively.. It is tried and tested successfully by me, so i can assure it works.. :tup  :tup

NOTE: On Windows 10 Home edition, you cannot turn off/defer windows updates and hence that will run in background but wont eat bandwidth on daily basis as we will not receive updates everyday. :k

Windows 10 May Get Blue Light Reduction Feature With Next Major Update...

Microsoft released a new Insider Preview build (14915) for Windows 10 on Wednesday, and it appears the company may bring a blue light reduction feature to the platform. The feature is similar to the one recently introduced to Apple's mobile platform, and expected to arrive for Windows 10 with its next major update - codenamed Redstone 2.
Twitter user Core has pointed out that Windows 10 build 14915 has references to a "BlueLightReduction" setting, and it appears to be a toggle switch that will make its way to the Action Centre, reports The Verge. It cannot be termed an entirely new feature as Apple introduced its 'Night Mode' feature to iOS devices earlier this year but it should be noted that this feature is still not available for OS X or macOS even now.
In fact, even on Windows, this feature is not entirely new as popular software such as F.lux has been available for a long time for users to adjust their screen's colour temperature.
The company might even consider bringing blue light reduction feature to its Windows 10 Mobile devices.
Even though Microsoft might be coming late to the party, it can still be seen as a good move by the company. The provision of such an option right from the software platform without the need of a third-party app is something that would be taken up with both arms by Windows users. However, we should keep in mind that this feature might or might not make it to the final update.
