Sachin Tendulkar misses 100th international century
MUMBAI: Millions of Sachin Tendulkar fans were left disappointed as the iconic batsman again came very close to his historic 100th international century only to miss it by six runs in the third Test against the West Indies at the Wankhede stadium on Friday.
There was a deathly silence at Tendulkar's home ground as pacer Ravi Rampaul turned the "villain" by dismissing their favourite hero.
Interestingly, West Indies captain Darren Sammy's statement on Thursday evening that he intended to "break a few Indian hearts" turned out to be prophetic as he took a sharp catch at the second slip off Rampaul delivery that bounced a trifle more with Tendulkar trying to play a square drive.
The disappointment was writ large on his face as he slowly trudged back to the pavilion with the crowd stunned into silence.
Starting on his overnight score of 67, the legendary batsman was in a mood to get the coveted ton as quickly as possible.

Dhoni, Sachin may be rested for ODIs against West Indies
MUMBAI: Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar are almost sure to be given the much-needed rest ahead of Australia tour when the national selectors meet on Friday to pick the team for the first two of the five one-day internationals against the West Indies from November 29.
The selection committee, headed by Kris Srikkanth, will have to choose between Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir to captain the side in the first two games, to be played in Cuttack (Nov 29) and Vishakapatnam (Dec 2).
Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is almost sure of getting picked for the tough tour Down Under with stellar performances in the ongoing Test series against the Windies. However, his absence from the squad could pave the way for the forgotten Harbhajan Singh, whose vast experience could earn him a place in the side.
Though, left-arm orthodox spinner Pragyan Ojha is most likely to be top of the priority list. Dhoni's absence will open a chance for Parthiv Patel as a second choice stumper for the Test tour of Australia in December.
Those set to take their appointed places are Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ajinkya Rahane.

Dhoni, Sachin rested, Sehwag to lead in ODIs
Mumbai: Virender Sehwag will lead India in the first three one-day internationals against West Indies after the selectors decided to rest MS Dhoni. Sachin Tendulkar has also been rested for the first three matches, Yuvraj Singh has reported himself as unwell and Harbhajan Singh has been ignored.
Following the fourth day of the ongoing Test series, India's selectors opted to give Dhoni a break in what has been a long season for India. Dhoni, 30, has featured in 11 Tests, 24 ODIs and three Twenty20 internationals this year, as well as captaining Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and Champions League Twenty20. Parthiv Patel, who has been a part of India's limited-overs plans since the World Cup, has been named as the wicketkeeper.
Harbhajan has once again been ignored, having earlier been left out of the ODIs against England following a disappointing injury-ridden performance on the tour of England. His bowling has been criticised of late, with his 17 wickets in 17 ODIs in 2011 coming at an average of 41.29. Well don't know what's happening bcz selectors have to give chance to bhajji bcz without him in australia our spin attack will be nothing .and we know all our spinners .today we have A.mishra,ojha,ashwin.all these spinners are just nothing they just few matches wonders .p.ojha have just potential to play long.but mishra is nothing and ashwin is mendis copy.
