NEW DELHI: Vodafone said that it will roll-out voice over LTE ( VoLTE) services in Mumbai, Gujarat, Delhi, Karnataka, and Kolkata starting January 2018, and it will extend the service across the country.

The telco is currently in a process of merging operations with Idea Cellular is also preparing to introduce VoLTE service on its 4G LTE network by early calendar year 2018.

Reliance Jio is the only telco in the country that is offering pan-India VoLTE service, while India's leading telco, Bharti Airtel, has launched VoLTE service in select circles, and is planning to launch it in other circles.

Vodafone said that its VoLTE services will allow Vodafone SuperNet 4G customers to experience HD quality crystal clear voice with supercall connect time.

Sunil Sood, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Vodafone India, said, "Vodafone is getting Future Ready with the advent of newer technologies and digital services. The introduction of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) will enhance customer experience with HD quality calling and offer our customers newer possibilities. Vodafone VoLTE is an important step towards introducing futuristic technology enhancing our Data Strong Network."

It will be device specific for now.. The TSP has to work with OEMs to make it work!

Yes unlike western countries where people buy phone from carrier and carrier control and roll out software updates to phone, here we buy it from open market so it's the duty of phone maker to roll out software for their device to support it, we cannot blame carrier like airtel/Voda/Idea for this

Vodafone 4G VoLTE service debuts in Gujarat; Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka and Kolkata to follow: Report

Last month, Vodafone announced that it plans to launch its 4G VoLTE services in India by January. Keeping its promise, the network provider has started rolling out the service, beginning with Gujarat. In the first phase of the rollout, Vodafone will be covering Mumbai, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka and Kolkata, of which Gujarat has already started to receive the service.
While Vodafone hasn’t officially announced the launch of 4G VoLTE service, it was first spotted by MobiGyaan. We have reached out to Vodafone for confirmation, and will update the copy when we have an official statement. Meanwhile, VoLTE stands for Voice over Long-Term Evolution and is used for transmitting voice data over the 4G/LTE network, rather than using 2G/ 3G connections. With the launch of VoLTE, Vodafone will become the third major operator after Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to offer voice over LTE support. With VoLTE support, Vodafone SuperNet 4G subscribers will be able to experience HD quality voice calls, and faster call connect time.
Vodafone’s 4G VoLTE will be available at no additional cost to its subscribers and customers will only need a device supporting VoLTE and 4G-enabled SIM.

The Vodafone VoLTE will be available on compatible devices with Vodafone 4G SIM. Customers can easily upgrade their SIM to 4G from their nearest Vodafone service centers, by providing a photo ID proof and a passport size photo.

Vodafone’s VoLTE, which stands for Voice over Long Term Evolution technology, has now gone live in the Delhi-NCR circle, Gujarat and Mumbai. However, in Gujarat VOLTE is currently available only in the cities of Ahmedabad and Surat. Also Vodafone’s VoLTE will be compatible with a limited number of devices for now. The list includes devices from Nokia, Xiaomi, Huawei’s Honor, Samsung and OnePlus. Vodafone’s service is limited to a few models from these brands.

In order to check for Vodafone VoLTE and whether it is compatible with your smartphone, just go to Vodafone.in/VoLTE. Here scroll down and check if your smartphone’s name is reflected. If your mobile’s model name is reflected, and you are based in the Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Surat or Mumbai, then you should be able to use VoLTE once you activate the service.

Users will need to update the smartphone with latest software provided by their handset manufacturer. Some manufacturers push out VoLTE support in new updates, so this is why it is best to make sure you have installed the latest software version. Those with a 4G SIM will get a verification that VoLTE voice calling feature has been enabled on the smartphone.
