720p movies are watchable on 1080p screens. Quality is almost good. But, you may feel some blurriness or pixelation.
720p movies quality is very good on 1080p laptop but if you want some amazing quality then 1080p or 4k is suggested on this screen.
On 720p screen you can watch movies with 480p quality too but in 1080p it will be disaster unless it's an animation.
