RE: VIVO IPL 2016 (Season - 9) Auction , Schedule , Scores & Updates ..
We got Watson at a bargain price: RCB
Royal Challengers Bangalore are used to making strong statements at the Indian Premier League auctions and they did so again on Saturday (February 6) with the marquee signing of seasoned Australian all-rounder Shane Watson. The staggering Rs 9.5 crore that the team paid for the 34-year-old made him the costliest buy this year.
The Vijay Mallya-owned side fought off stiff competition from new entrants Rising Pune Supergiants and defending champions Mumbai Indians to snare the former Rajasthan Royals star. Watson, a battling right-handed batsman and handy medium-pacer, will add serious bite to the Virat Kohli-led Bengaluru side still chasing their maiden title.

"He is what we were looking for and I think we got him at a bargain price," said Amrit Thomas, RCB director. "We wanted a quality all-rounder and we got him at a good price. His recent form shows how good he is," he added.
RCB, who went into the auction with a purse of just under Rs 22 crore, roped in another all-rounder in Stuart Binny for his base price of Rs 2 crore before shelling out Rs 50 lakh for the left-handed 22-year-old Australian batsman Travis head.
Head has played 23 T20 matches and boasts a strike rate of 149.73, making him a potent attacking option at the top of the order as well as a cover for the injury-prone Chris Gayle. He can don the role of a wicket-keeper too.
Joining the Australian brigade was paceman Kane Richardson for Rs 2 crore. The Bengaluru side also made some shrewd deals on fringe players, paying Rs 10 lakhs each for Sachin Baby, Iqbal Abdulla, Akshay Karenwar and Vikas Tokas.
With Gayle, AB de Villiers, Watson and Mitchell Starc likely to be the four overseas players automatically selected in the playing XI, there are already signs of better balance. Will it finally be RCB's year?
