Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) India has decided to have five language feeds, namely English, Hindi, Bangla, Tamil and Telugu for the ninth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sony Max, Sony Six and Sony ESPN.

The tournament will be aired in Hindi on Sony Max and Sony Six. In addition, Sony Six will also carry Tamil, Telugu and Bengali feeds.

Sony Six HD as well as the Sony ESPN cluster of channels will air the English-language feed of IPL.

Sony Kix, which is now Sony ESPN, had carried the Tamil and Telugu audio feeds last year and there was a dedicated Bangla feed on Sony Aath, the Bangla movie channel.

This year, though, Sony Aath will not carry the Bangla feed of the IPL. The audio feeds option has been given on Sony Six as Sony Kix has been rebranded as Sony ESPN.

Sony Pictures Networks India executive VP, business head sports cluster Prasana Krishnan said that having English feed on Sony ESPN makes sense as it shows international sports.

“We don’t need a separate channel for a regional feed this time. Six has got a broad enough reach.

We are not putting the English option on Six as there is a technical limit to the number of language options I can offer on one channel,” Krishnan stated.

Earlier Krishnan had told TelevisionPost.com that football and tennis would form the mainstay of Sony ESPN while Sony Six, which has been billed as the sports + entertainment channel, would air basketball and fight sports.
