Uzbektelecom, the state-owned
telecoms operator of Uzbekistan, has
launched a tender for its nascent project
to build an IPTV platform in the country. The tender is for the supply of
equipment, software and implementation services,
and has a submissions deadline of July 14th of this
year, with a total value of up to USD 990,000. The Uzbekistani telecoms market has a number of
broadband providers, although they are believed
to be somewhat hamstrung by the close ties
Uzbektelecom has with the country's
Communications and Information Agency, with
some commentators claiming that charges for last- mile access are determined by the state-owned
telco in cahoots with the communications regulator. Meanwhile, alternative operator Buzton (owned by
Uzbektelecom and Vimpelcom) has already rolled
out Fiber-to-the-Building (FTTB) services to about
300 buildings in the city of Zarafshane, and an FTTB
rollout is also taking place in the city of Uchkuduk.
