Kohli likely to be rested during home series against Sri Lanka

The combination of a relentless schedule and the prize of winning a Test series in South Africa are factors that are likely to force the selectors to rest Virat Kohli for the second half of the home series against Sri Lanka in December. Although he has been named in the squad for the first two Tests, the Indian captain is likely to sit out of the final one and/or the six limited-overs matches that follow.

"Virat has played the maximum cricket in the world in the last one year. So he needs some rest at some point," a BCCI official told ESPNcricinfo, and went on to counter media reports that stated Kohli had written to the selectors asking for time off. The official insisted the Indian captain had "not asked" to be rested but it was simply his time to be, in line with the team's workload management policy. "The rotation is for everybody including him [Kohli]."

Despite claiming the No. 1 Test ranking recently, the team management led by Kohli and the coach Ravi Shastri want to extend their dominance away from home. And South Africa is a place where India have never won a series in six attempts. "They firmly believe they will win [the] South Africa series and they want to be fully prepared. The BCCI will support and whatever they ask we will help out," the board official said.

Totally pointless series. Indian players are the only players who play for 12 months in an year. Ideally they should have been rested and despatched early to prepare in South Africa. I don't see even people interested in this series.
Iam not going to watch this series for sure.Neither watched it when india toured sri lanka few months ago.I don't think people should watch it either.I will watch indvssa with full excitement.waiting for it!:nj:

Angelo Mathews declared fit for India tour

Angelo Mathews will be fit for Sri Lanka's tour of India in November, while Kusal Perera and Asela Gunaratne are also expected to return to the national set-up.

All three were unavailable for the recently concluded Pakistan tour, but will be welcomed back warmly following Sri Lanka's recent struggles in limited-overs contests. Sri Lanka have lost their last 16 white-ball matches, including both ODI and T20I series whitewashes against Pakistan and India.

Sri Lanka drop Kaushal Silva, Kusal Mendis for India Tests

Silva, who made a comeback in the two Test series in UAE against Pakistan, made 67 runs in four innings with a top score of 27. Mendis, meanwhile, since making a hundred against India in the second Test at SSC, had gone through 13 innings without a half-century and was dropped from the ODI side after the second game in Abu Dhabi.

Former captain Angelo Mathews returns to the side after recovering from a hamstring injury that ruled him out from the UAE tour. There was no place for middle-order batsman Asela Gunaratne. A spokesman for SLC said that although Gunaratne had been declared fit, the selectors were concerned about his match fitness.

People on social media have slammed Sri Lankan selectors for dropping Mendis and rightly so. Agreed that he has been patchy but completely dropping him from the Test squad is bizarre. :wall:
