Sandeep Dahad appointed Leo Lions
bowling coach
In a star-studded league meant for
retired cricketers, a little-known
name will look to enhance his
coaching credentials. Sandeep
Dahad, the former Mumbai left-arm
pacer, has been offered the
opportunity of a lifetime as he has
been named as the bowling coach of
the Brian Lara-led Leo Lions in the
Masters Champions League (MCL),
which kicks off in Dubai on Thursday
(January 28).
Dahad had achieved the distinction
of being the youngest-ever coach in
India when he took charge of Tripura
in 2008. He later served as the head
coach of the Goa junior teams too. A
BCCI level 'C' coach, he has assisted
Aussie pace legend Dennis Lillee and
TA Sekar at the MRF pace foundation.
For the past couple of years, he has
coached Dadar Union, who've
progressed from the 'C' to 'A' Division
of Kanga League since he took over.
Currently, Dahad is one of the fast
bowling coaches at the MCA-IDBI
Federal Life Insurance Bowling
Foundation, which was launched last
year with the aim of discovering
match-winning bowlers for Mumbai.
The 39-year-old aims to learn as
much as he can from the first
international stint of his coaching
career, so that he can then pass on
that knowledge to Mumbai's
bowlers. "I want to learn from Lara,
the biggest match-winner there has
been, about how a fast bowler
managed to trouble him," Dahad told
TOI on Saturday (January 23).
"I'll also look to pick the brains of
guys like Darren Gough and Heath
Streak on what made them great,
and will ask them to come to India to
have a session with our pacers," he
said. "It's an opportunity to witness
what made the true masters of the
game supersede the others in terms
of skills, attitude and fitness. Gough,
for example, wasn't very tall, but still
managed to swing the ball at good
pace, something which our bowlers
can learn about," he added.
Dahad will assist former West Indies
skipper Carl Hooper, who will be the
head coach. The only Indian player in
Leo Lions is ex-Mumbai offie Ramesh
Powar. http://m.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/77477/sandeep-dahad-appointed-leo-lions-bowling-coach
