Samsung to unveil 4-inch 'mini' Galaxy S III on October 11th

JK Shin, head of Samsung Mobile Communications, confirmed today that his company will be releasing a four-inch version of the Galaxy S III on October 11th in Germany. Shin announced the news during a meeting with Korean press on Wednesday.

Shin didn't reveal many details about the device, though he said it was spurred by increasing demand for 4-inch devices in Europe. He also noted that it won't be an entry-level handset, telling reporters it will have "full form factor." This would make it an unusual addition to the Android landscape, where high-end devices tend to be 4.5 inches or larger.

"We'll be launching a 4-inch Galaxy S III on the 11th in Germany," Shin said. "There's a lot of demand for a 4-inch screen device in Europe. Some call it an entry-level device, but we call it 'mini.'"

In August SamMobile started with the first rumours about the new GALAXY S III Mini. Today Samsung officially announced the new GALAXY S III Mini.

The GALAXY S III Mini is the little brother of the GALAXY S III.

Samsumg used the same style of build for this device. The GALAXY S III Mini isn’t that special but for a new mid end device it will be good enough.

The GALAXY S III Mini uses a 4″ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 480 x 800. Some other specifications are a 5 megapixel camera, 1Ghz dual-core processor and the latest version of Android (Android 4.1 Jelly Bean).
Samsung poured their own interface called Touch Wiz interface on it and this device is NFC enabled.

The new GALAXY S III Mini comes in 2 colors namely white and blue. The advice price is around the 400 euro.

The phone will be available by the first week of November.

Samsung Electronics on Friday unveiled a compact version of its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone, with a touch screen sized to match that of arch-rival Apple's new iPhone 5.
The Galaxy S III Mini has a four inch high-definition touch screen, compared to the 4.8 inch version on it's larger Samsung sibling, but the size reduction is offered at a technical price.

The display has a lower resolution of 800x480 pixels compared to 1,280x720 pixels, the camera is five rather than eight megapixels and the S III's dual-core 1.5GHz processor has been downgraded to 1GHz.

"It can be an optimal choice for consumers who are looking for more practical smartphones," Samsung said in statement.

The company gave no details on pricing or an eventual sales date.

The Mini's screen is the same size as the iPhone 5 launched last month by Apple, but its reduced feature set makes it more of a corner man in the heavyweight clash between the iPhone 5 and the S III.

Samsung and Apple are currently embroiled in a bitter legal battle spread over 10 countries over alleged patent infringements.

Initial reactions to the new Samsung product were underwhelming.

Samsung reveals Galaxy S3 Mini release date

Samsung disclosed today that its Galaxy S3 Mini will be coming to the UK in one week.

Although Phones 4U had previously said that it would start shipping the handset on 1 November, Samsung announced today that it will in fact be released on 8 November.

There's no word on SIM free pricing for the Galaxy S3 Mini yet, but Phones 4U is offering it for free on contracts from £25 a month. This two-year Vodafone contract offers the phone with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB of data monthly.

If that doesn't do it for you, Samsung has said that the phone will be available through all UK mobile networks and from a number of retailers.
In terms of specifications, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is essentially a downgraded version of the high-end Galaxy S3. It features a recent version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and comes with a 1GHz dual-core processor and a 4in WVGA screen.

There's also a 5MP rear-facing camera, a VGA front-facing camera, either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage and support for 4G LTE connectivity.
