The first edition of Premier Futsal League 2016 will begin at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on July 15.
Brazilian football great Ronaldinho and Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs will kick off the world's first multi-national tournament.
It has Portuguese football legend Luis Figo as president and Indian cricketer Virat Kohli as ambassador.
The tournament will have a total of six teams, involving 15 matches but will only be played in two venues - Chennai and Goa. Team Chennai will play Mumbai and Goa will take on Kolkata on the first day at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai and the final is going to be played in Goa on July 24.
The tournament will be governed by Futsal Association of India (FAI), a body affiliated to the world body Asociacion Mundial de Futsal (AMF).
The first edition of the league will see six franchises divided in two groups to battle it out over eight match days.
Premier Futsal, a franchise-based international futsal (a form of football being played indoors on a smaller field with five players in a side for 40-minute duration) tournament and promoted by an entity formed by Indian entrepreneurs, has attracted some of the world's best players but has struggled to convince domestic players to jump on its bandwagon.
The teams have been picked by an independent committee comprising of International Futsal experts with a view to make the teams balanced and the league competitive. For the next season, all the Futsallers will go back in to the bidding pool and the owners will have to pick their team through a bidding process. The marquee players which have allotted will remain with the six franchises for the next season as well.
