South Indian power grid isn't connected to rest of India. So they cannot draw power from rest of India when needed. So they have to produce their own electricity. But unfortunately there are not enough power generating station in south though in north India we are exporting power to our neighborhood country such as Bangladesh.

Bro Some Of Biggest Thermol Power Stations Are In ROI Which Make Electricity From Coal And After The Starting OF Sadar Saravar DAM In Gujarat The Electricity Problem Are Solved For MP,GJ And Maharashtra

Out of Chennai, in other places of Tamil Nadu, the daily power shutdown is for 8 hours. Previously it was 14 hours a day... Think of them...
