PMO may go ahead with BSNL, MTNL revival

PMO hangs up on BSNL-MTNL merger plan for now

In a move that has dashed the hopes for an immediate revival of State-owned telecom carriers, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has rejected a proposal to merge the loss-making Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) with the ailing Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. However, it has assured to look into the matter later.
The PMO has also not approved a proposal to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for monetisation of land and transfer of BSNL’s ₹23,000-crore loan and an equivalent land parcel. The rejections came at a high-level PMO meeting held on Tuesday to consider the revival plans of the two PSUs.

People venting out their frustration after hearing of the revival being heard by the government.

Whether a genius person or a bunch of monkey, who ever runs a government, none of them can beat a corporate when it comes to efficiency. This is proven through out the history. Either they require monopoly or they will shutdown. Just privatize it. Don't waste our hard earned money. You can't revive a company with such bad culture. Our economy is already in Bad shape. Invest that money to boost it first.

I Sometimes wonder why they can't implement autonomous and efficient working of IIM in some of the ailing govt companies. May be they could do better if they tried doing similar in some of those companies and make them independent , restructure as suggested by others .

Once government open one PSU, they cannot return from that mess anymore. See the BSNL and OFB case. In OFB case, Ministry of defense is backing for corporatisation of them from last 1 year. But still they could not do it. Because the employee of those OFBs are on strike against that and we all know the main reason. The ideology of trade unions is ruining all of them. They are not ready to get out of their comfort zone. This happens with literally all Public sectors. When there is no trade unions, opposition( Read any party) will come with their usual drama. So it is not happening. Neither they are going to be independent nor going to restructure them. All they are going to do is blame Govt. when something goes wrong.
