Petrol price cut by Rs. 3.02 /Litre; Diesel costlier by Rs. 1.47
On the day that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented a Budget that promised to be heavy on the common man’s pocket, the news of petrol prices being slashed has come like a relief. Petrol price slumped by Rs. 3.02 on Monday, whereas prices of diesel were also slashed by Rs 1.47. After this reduction, petrol prices in Delhi now stand at Rs 56.61 and diesel will now cost Rs 46.43. These will be effective from February 29, midnight. The news was announced by the Indian Oil Corporation on Monday evening.
“The current level of international product prices of Petrol and Diesel and INR-USD exchange rate warrant decrease in price of Petrol and increase in price of Diesel, the impact of which is being passed on to the consumers with this price revision”, Oil Corporation said in a statement. The increase in diesel prices will only deter consumers from buying diesel based cars. This is especially as Jaitley announced in his Budget speech that a 1% infrastructure cess will be levied on small petrol, CNG cars, 2.5% on diesel cars of certain capacity and 4% on other higher engine capacity vehicles and SUVs.
