Pakistan name unchanged squad for Australia Tests

Pakistan have named an unchanged 16-man squad for the forthcoming Test series against Australia. Flamboyant opener Sharjeel Khan, who was included for the two Tests against New Zealand but didn't feature in the playing XI in either game, has been retained.

Noteable omissions from the squad include Mohammad Hafeez, who was considered for selection but wasn't included in the squad. Hafeez still hasn't been cleared by the International cricket council to bowl after he underwent a test in Brisbane earlier this month.

This first Test will also see Misbah back leading the squad after he missed the second Test against New Zealand due to the demise of his father in law and a one-match ban handed to him for slow over rate in the first game. Pakistan will need Misbah's experience as they start their tour in Brisbane with a day-night Test before heading to Melbourne and Sydney for the remaining two Tests.

Kamran Akmal, who made a case for himself and has amassed 826 runs from seven games at an average of 82.60, wasn't included in the squad as the selectors decided to stick with Sarfaraz Ahmed as the preferred wicketkeeper.

Squad : Azhar Ali, Sami Aslam, Sharjeel Khan, Asad Shafiq, Younis Khan, Misbah-ul-Haq (capt), Babar Azam, Sarfraz Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan, Mohammad Nawaz, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Amir, Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan, Rahat Ali, Imran Khan.

Marsh ruled out of Pakistan ODIs; Lynn, Starc to miss third ODI

Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the remainder of the One-Day International series against Pakistan with a shoulder injury. The Australian ODI team will also be without Chris Lynn and Mitchell Starc for the third ODI, to be played in Perth.
While Starc will return to the squad for the fourth ODI, to be played in Sydney, Lynn will consult a specialist regarding his neck injury before his availability for the fourth and fifth ODIs is determined.
Cricket Australia have named legspinner Adam Zampa in the squad for the rest of the series, while Peter Handscomb, who recently enjoyed a stunning start to his Test career, has been named as Lynn's replacement. A replacement player for Marsh hasn't been named yet.

"Mitchell [Marsh] has had an ongoing shoulder injury which we have been managing but it is now at a point where he is unable to function at the level required. He now requires a period of rest and rehabilitation in order to return to full fitness," Cricket Australia Physiotherapist David Beakley said.

Speaking about Lynn's injury, Beakley said, "Unfortunately Chris has re-aggravated his existing neck injury and is currently unable to function at a level required to play a match. He will not travel with the squad to Perth, and will instead return to Brisbane tomorrow to be reviewed by his specialist.

"Following that consultation and seeing how he responds to treatment we will be able to determine whether or not he can take part in the remaining two one-day international matches in Sydney and Adelaide," he added.

Starc, meanwhile, has been rested from the squad in view of the amount of cricket coming up in the next few months.

"Mitchell has had a very big six months and played a significant amount of cricket. We needed to find an opportunity to give him a break and with his schedule in the comings months we believe now is the appropriate time to give him a match off," Trevor Hohns , the Interim National Selector, said.
