Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge finally get Android Nougat 7.0 update

Samsung has finally started rolling out Android Nougat 7.0 update for its Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones. Samsung’s beta users have had access to the final Nougat version for a couple of weeks now, but now the official update is being rolled out for everyone.

Android Nougat brings with it a bunch of new features, and improvements, and Samsung is making the most of them. The Quick Panel UI has been tweaked with a cleaner look, and users will be able to take advantage of Direct Reply on notifications. One of the highlight feature remains multi-window, which lets you use multiple apps simultaneously. A new pop-up window feature also allows up to seven apps to run side-by-side at the same time.

The rest of the new features include improvements to battery life courtesy of Doze mode, and also different modes to optimize performance, entertainment and gaming. In the Entertainment mode, the sound and image quality are enhanced, while performance mode will use all the resources available. But this mode will also have an impact on the overall battery life.

With Android Nougat, the company is also introducing Samsung Pass feature. As Samsung explains, the feature “works as a master key for website login on Samsung internet, is now supported on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge . Users can use their fingerprint to log into selected websites and apps.”

The Android Nougat update is being rolled out in phases, and users should be receiving a notification about the OTA update. The latest Android version is slowly, yet steadily, making its presence felt in the huge ecosystem. Recent Android dashboard numbers reveal that Nougat runs on less than one percent of smartphones. Lollipop rules the roost with an overall 33 percent share, closely followed by Marshmallow with a share of 29 percent.
