MUMBAI: The BCCI has rejected the franchisee fee reduction demand made by Kochi and Pune franchisees of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Earlier, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Sahara Pune Warriors had paid 75 per cent of the annual instalment of the total fee and insisted on waiver of the remaining amount as the total number of matches to be played were reduced from 94 to 74.
The two franchisees argued that the BCCI failed to comply with the terms in the invitation to tender with regard to the number of matches this season.
As per the contract, each team was to play 18 matches on a home-and-away basis, but the BCCI reduced the number to 14, and brought down the total number of matches from 94 to 74 citing the frenzied international schedule and to avoid a player burn-out.
The BCCI working committee, however, today rejected the request.
The Pune and Kochi franchises were bought for $370 million (Rs 17 billion) and $333 million (Rs 15 billion) respectively. The franchisee owners will have to pay this fee in instalments of 10 per cent per year.
