Most of the Indian Premier League
(IPL) franchises are in favour of
trimming the squad size for next
season, an approach which could lead
to a greater number of unsold players
at the February auction.
The upper limit of the player pool for
each franchise is 25 players but teams
are looking at a squad strength
between 18 to 21, according to
sources.Apart from saving a few bucks
at the auction, franchises want to
follow the Big Bash model, in which
the squad upper limit is 18.
Barring Mumbai Indians, which
believes in tending to a larger squad,
most other teams feel too many
players are left on the sidelines each
season, which is not conducive to
healthy team spirit. Mumbai have
retained 19 players, the maximum.
Barring the two new teams -Pune and
Rajkot -the rest of the teams have
retained around 14 or 15 players.
