Sanjiv Goenka and Intex get Pune and Rajkot IPL teams

Pune and Rajkot are the two new IPL teams, replacing Chennai and Jaipur. While Sanjiv Goenka has bought the Pune franchise, Intex has got the Rajkot team. Goenka will pay Rs 16 crore (Rs 160 million) and Intex Rs 10 crore (Rs 100 million) for the franchises that they have won.

The two new IPL teams will play in 2016 and 2017 editions of the cash-rich T20 league. The BCCI had last month released an invitation to tender (ITT) for the right to operate and manage the two proposed new franchises for a period of two years.

The bids were necessitated following the suspension of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals by the Lodha Committee. A total of 21 entities had bought the IPL tender documents, as per media reports.
